This grill is obscene,
Guangzhou Automobile Group (GAC) announced the second generation of the M8 in China. The seven-seater minivan is characterized by a gigantic grill and a lot of luxury.
With a length of 5.21 meters, a width of 1.90 meters and a height of 1.82 meters as well as the wheelbase that has increased by a good 70 millimeters to 3,070 millimeters, the new GAC M8 is a monumental car that can hardly be overlooked. The gigantic grille also contributes to it, which is probably unique in the automotive world, not even in BMW and Lexus.
GAC calls it Soaring Wings. It is characterized by having ten vertical chrome pillars that occupy almost the entire front of the vehicle. The fierce look is underlined by vertical LED daytime running lights and horizontally slotted LED main headlights. This monstrous grille is reserved for the Master variant of the M8, the highest trim level. The other versions should arrive somewhat calmer. But there are no pictures yet.
In the body suite, the M8 is styled rather conventionally. Access to the first row is through normal doors, while passengers in rows two and three use sliding doors on both sides. The cargo area is accessed through a large, steep rear hatch. A large roof edge spoiler sits atop. Chrome strips form the lower edge of the body. The design of the front lights is mirrored by the rear lights, which are connected by a light strip.
The seating system is presented with individual seats in the first two rows, with the rear passengers finding their place in powerful luxury seats with electrical adjustment, footrests and integrated speakers. Behind, three other passengers must be accommodated in a continuous seat. Its entire interior is lined with leather in the Master version.
The driver looks into a 12.3-inch digital cockpit and controls a 14.6-inch touchscreen to control the infotainment system and other functions. The operating concept is completed by a gear selector with a glass whose appearance matches the rest of the vehicle lighting, as well as the engine start button, the driving mode selector and the electronic parking brake on the console. top center.
The M8's engine portfolio includes petrol, hybrid and plug-in hybrid variants. The pure gasoline engine with a displacement of two liters, four cylinders and turbocharging provides 255 hp and 400 Nm at startup. Power is sent to the front wheels by an eight-speed automatic transmission. In the hybrid, which comes from the Toyota shelf, the combustion engine itself works, but converted to the Atkinson cycle. It then offers 193 hp and 320 Nm, complemented by a CVT transmission with a 184 hp and 270 Nm electric motor. Technical data for the plug-in hybrid is not yet available.
In China, the M8 will launch under the Trumpchi label starting in fall 2022. GAC has yet to announce pricing. Other markets, where the M8 competes as GAC, will follow later.
